Chapter 4
Chapter 4:
Gunshot. Another gunshot. One after
another. Then a Molotov cocktail exploded. Half of the enveloping crowd caught
on fire; the other half began to scream. It wasn’t a scream of fear, it was of
anger. It actually sounded like hissing, choking and screaming all mixed together.
Then someone yelled “On your left!!" followed by another person yelling
"On your right!!" Then two Molotovs exploded, one after another. An
Asian woman broke the helicopter window with a shovel and grabbed Sam by the
arm. But then an Asian man broke the window on the other side and yelled
"Get him outta here!!" He jumped out the window and they began to
run. Sam asked, or rather yelled “What the hell is going on!?!" "Just
run god dammit!!" she responded. Four people joined them. The small group
of 7 people ran down the road. The other enraged people chased them. When they
got to an apartment building one of the men slid open the gate and let the
other 6 people in. He closed the door with a loud bang. As they ran up the
stairs Sam turned to see the people outside. Their eyes were clouded red, and
they were bleeding around their mouths. They were human, but why were they
acting like this? Sam looked closer. They didn’t even try to slide the door
open. They just banged on the gate. Why were they like this? Sam looked
away and walked up the stairs.

Chapter 3
There was a helicopter on the hill. It was on its side.
Military tents were set up everywhere. A dead soldier lay by a tent. Sam took
no notice of all this, for he was running too fast to pay attention to the
calamities. As the group of people ran towards him, Sam tripped. He landed hard,
and the fall took the air out of him. As
he got up he realized that he was very close to the helicopter. He got into the
open cabin and slammed the door closed just in time. Inside the helicopter
cabin was small, cramped, and uncomfortable. But it was safe. He looked at the
faces of the people, they were grey, their eyes blank, and they were a little
bit bloody. They seemed sick. Sam leaned to his left, trying to get the
helicopter upright. It didn’t work. He saw a movement, it wasn’t like the other
people some turned twards the movement and ran towards it. What was the
movement? Sam rubbed his forehead. Sam rested his head on the controls. He
scratched his arm. Then he heard a gunshot…

Chapter 2:
It was noon. Sam walked down 4th Avenue. It was empty. A blue bus was parked in the middle of the road. Were there people there? He got on the bus. There wasn’t anyone there. He was confused. He got off the bus and continued up the street. He got to the park. Then he sat on a bench and drank a can of soda. He looked out at the city. It looked peaceful. He didn’t hear any cars. Everything was silent. Someone was walking towards him. He walked towards the person, filled with emotion. When the man finally saw Sam, he aggressively ran towards him. Behind the man a ominously large group ran in his direction. Sam did what his instincts told him, “Run.” He dropped his bag and ran up the hill.

Chapter 1:
Sam awoke in the hospital. Weak and hungry, he got up. He
was really thirsty. He tried to make his way to the bathroom, but fell down. He
groaned. “Nurse, Help,” he said wearily, no response. “Help,” he stopped. He
got up. He continued to the bathroom.
Sam turned on the water faucet and drank greedily. When he was done he walked over
to the door. It was stuck. He hit the door. He moved back a little, then he
rammed into it. He repeated this process multiple times until the door opened.
The hall was lifeless. He was confused. Sam tried the elevator, to no effect. Why
was there no electricity? He walked down the stairs. The main level lobby was
also empty of people. Why was there no one in the hospital? A vending machine lay
on its side. He tried calling his grandmother-who was his only living relative.
The phone didn’t work. Was there no signal? He made his way over to the vending
machine and realized that the glass was broken. Probably from the fall it had
had. He took a coke and drank it, at least what was left of it. He grabbed a plastic
bag and put some more soda cans in it. He
forced open the front doors open, and left the hospital.

I will be writing a story and posting chapters individually,
each day. I won’t say what it is about
because it would take the mystery away from it. Enjoy!
Prologue:
The street was empty and silent. The pizza restaurant had a
broken window. There were no cars or buses or motorcycles parked along the
two-lane street, only a bicycle on its side on the sidewalk. A man lay on the corner at the cross
street. There was no life at the intersection.
All was quiet. The wind whistled. The sun was high in the sky. The city
was abandoned. Something stirred. The man twitched and opened his eyes…
