Chapter 7:

The day went on normally, cleaning the blood, burning the bodies, checking the area for the infected, etc.. Dinner was dried beef and canned broccoli. Before going to sleep Mia and Sam talked about their past, then Sam asked “How long….was I in the hospital?” Mia paused, “The outbreak began 4 weeks ago… the day the radio and TV stopped broadcasting there were reports of outbreaks all over the world…” “…wow….” Sam whispered. Then he went to sleep. The next morning Sam talked to Hester. Hester said he used to be a biologist in the university. Hester had studied Rage, and Sam and Hester talked about the disease for a while. Hester told Sam all the effects of Rage. “The infection dilates their pupils, it also destroys pigmentation.” Other effects were loss of speech, minor insomnia, and overproduction of adrenalin. “It also increases breathing and heart speed.” So they continued talking about how to recognize an infected person, special protection from them and other things. Then Julia walked over and said “were going on the run, you coming?” “What’s the run?” Sam asked. “We go foraging for supplies” Hester responded. “You coming?” Julia asked a little more impatiently.

Chapter 6:
The roof door banged.  Sam could see the people through the door window, their bloody faces, light red eyes, their angry expressions. Mia picked up her shovel, but Sam stopped her, he said “why are the people acting like this?” she stopped, and responded “they’re infected-” “Infected with what?” “-we have to kill them” Mia continued, “Infected with what?!” The infection is in their blood mucus and saliva-” “INFECTED WITH WHAT??!!” “Rage” Sam stopped, he had heard about rage, it acted in about 5 minutes and it had no cure. The infected people kept trying to get in. John had his pistol in his hand and so did Julia the others were trying to keep the door shut, then John yelled “let them in!” the others let the door open, at that very moment Julia and John opened fire. It took 3 to 4 shots to kill an infected person and they were soon out of bullets. That’s when Mia, Lee, Russell and Hester started to kill the remaining infected with a shovel, two large knives, and a pipe. The infected group was killed quickly, but when they finished, the floor was covered in dead bodies and blood. John sent Mia and Sam down to close the gate.

Sam walked up the stairs until he got to the roof. He closed the roof door. A man walked up to Sam and said “John Riggs, and you are?” “Sam Collins” Sam responded. John continued “This is Mia,” he signaled to the Asian woman. “This is Lee.” He signaled to the Asian man. “They are brother and sister. This is Julia.” A woman with red hair set her pistol down and walked up to Sam. John introduced Sam to a large man with the name Russell, and a small man with the name Hester. Sam went off into a corner and watched the city. The sun was going down; all was quiet. He walked into the rooftop office. It had 3 bunk beds. Mia was getting out a camping mat. She turned to Sam and said “Here’s a place for you to     sleep, tonight.” Sam thanked Mia. He looked tired and his short straight brown hair was messy. He took a shower, he was thin from hunger. He went to sleep. He awoke to a car alarm. He walked outside to see the small group having breakfast. Lee gave Sam a can of pineapple chunks. “Eat up.” Lee said. Sam explained to the people about his life, about his grandmother who was his only living relative, and how he wanted to find her. This put him in a better humor, but then John asked “Where do you come from?” Sam paused, and then responded “The hospital. I was in coma. I was delivering a pizza to Saltzburry from Jonahsburg. A car cut in front of me and… well, I woke up in the hospital.”  Suddenly Julia yelled “Horde! About 20!” everyone got up. Then a loud bang of the gate sounded. John yelled “They’re past the gate!”

Chapter 4:

Gunshot. Another gunshot. One after another. Then a Molotov cocktail exploded. Half of the enveloping crowd caught on fire; the other half began to scream. It wasn’t a scream of fear, it was of anger. It actually sounded like hissing, choking and screaming all mixed together. Then someone yelled “On your left!!" followed by another person yelling "On your right!!" Then two Molotovs exploded, one after another. An Asian woman broke the helicopter window with a shovel and grabbed Sam by the arm. But then an Asian man broke the window on the other side and yelled "Get him outta here!!" He jumped out the window and they began to run. Sam asked, or rather yelled “What the hell is going on!?!" "Just run god dammit!!" she responded. Four people joined them. The small group of 7 people ran down the road. The other enraged people chased them. When they got to an apartment building one of the men slid open the gate and let the other 6 people in. He closed the door with a loud bang. As they ran up the stairs Sam turned to see the people outside. Their eyes were clouded red, and they were bleeding around their mouths. They were human, but why were they acting like this? Sam looked closer. They didn’t even try to slide the door open. They just banged on the gate. Why were they like this?  Sam looked away and walked up the stairs.

Sam took no notice of all this, for he was running too fast to pay attention to the calamities. As the group of people ran towards him, Sam tripped. He landed hard, and the fall took the air out of him.  As he got up he realized that he was very close to the helicopter. He got into the open cabin and slammed the door closed just in time. Inside the helicopter cabin was small, cramped, and uncomfortable. But it was safe. He looked at the faces of the people, they were grey, their eyes blank, and they were a little bit bloody. They seemed sick. Sam leaned to his left, trying to get the helicopter upright. It didn’t work. He saw a movement, it wasn’t like the other people some turned twards the movement and ran towards it. What was the movement? Sam rubbed his forehead. Sam rested his head on the controls. He scratched his arm. Then he heard a gunshot…
